Creating a safe space for youth to engage in difficult topics

Nearly half the world's population is under the age of 25. As the largest generation ever of young people, investing in their health is crucial to allow them to make a full and positive transition into adulthood and contribute to the social and economic development of their families, communities and nations. Sexually-transmitted infections place a heavy burden on young people who often have no access to sex education and health services.

Tune Me is a mobile site designed for low and high-end devices in places where high data charges and poor network coverage limit access to online services. Through social features and content designed to engage with users rather than lecture them, Tune Me aims to give adolescents the information and motivation they need to make better choices.

Tune Me is live in Zambia, Malawi, Zimbabwe, and Namibia, and soon to launch in Botswana and other southern African countries. More than 200 stories on the site cover subjects as diverse as menstruation and gender-based violence. The stories are adapted and translated from a global set of content to ensure relevance and improve engagement.

With hundreds of thousands of unique users, we are well on our way to reaching our goal of engaging with three million adolescents in the next two years. Thank to our partnership with Panoply Digital we are also gathering data and insights that will allow us to continually evolve the site to meet the needs of users.
