In today’s weird and wonderful world of digital things, the email is fast becoming a thing of the past. And when it comes to internal staff communication, an email is about as engaging as a black and white printout pinned to a notice board.
MTN isn’t oblivious to that particular fact of modern-day life, so they briefed us to build an accessible and straightforward platform they could use to engage with their employees and build on their company culture.
Enter AmaY’ello, the bot that chats to MTNers on WhatsApp and sends messages from the boardroom to the storeroom and back.
Full of features
MTNers (a cool nickname for employees) can use AmaY’ello to share ideas, read news and special offers, give feedback and hear from the ExCo. They can even find out what acronyms mean using the Jargon Buster.
Push and pull
MTN can send info to any employees who have opted-in, but MTNers can also pull info from the bot at any time. It’s a two-way communication system between newbies, board members and everyone in between.
Not only is this bot service personalised, but it can also segment the user base by location or seniority within MTN.
Blue ticks all ‘round
All push notifications are sent as Highly Structured Messages (HSM), which need to be approved by Facebook’s Verified WhatsApp Business Messenger account so we can be sure we’re not spamming anyone or breaking any rules.
We wrote the bot
We developed a content strategy that included copy governance, a messaging structure and a tone that’s fun to engage with. Nobody likes a boring bot.
