
All work. All Play.
MTN has lots of great digital entertainment, but users had to play a bit of hide and seek to find it across scattered sites. So we put them all in one fun spot, inspired by the simplest of household entertainment devices – the remote.

High-value content is no fun if no one can find it. MTN Play, Gamer+, Music+, Shortz, CallerTunez and Showmax are all top-quality entertainment offerings, but they all had their own URLs. So sites were underused and services were sometimes hard to find.
So MTN asked us to help them create a single-entry portal to this wide world of awesome. Sounds simple enough, right? Not in one month it wasn’t. Ironically the tight timeline meant that we had no time to ‘play’ around.
We needed to work together, work fast and be flexible enough to gather all the high-value content we needed.
Entertainment would be boring if it didn’t change, so we also needed to develop something that could be played with, tweaked, and added to in the future.

Getting the party started
From a tech perspective, we needed to make sure we were optimising for a full range of devices, from low-end smartphones to the latest Androids and Apples. We also had to take data usage and connectivity into consideration.
Remote: working
The design was inspired by one of the everlasting symbols of entertainment – the remote control. The buttons, colours and style of the site were symbolic of ‘Play’ and everything that goes with it.
Hyper-playing and co-creating
We gathered our best players – a hyper-team of designers, developers, digital strategists and client partners – to knock it out the park. But we don’t do things alone. We co-created this with the MTN teams and all the partners as well.
