Where’s the front door?
The MTN ecosystem is big, bold and bright yellow. But with so many users, functions and subsites, how do we get everyone to enter from the same point?

MTN wanted a single site where they could direct all their online traffic in time for a summer campaign launch. The brief was simple, the problem was not.
MTN have a lot of platforms – we’re not messing around when we say that. There’s the original one, the shop, the music platform, multiple gaming spaces, business and much, much more. We’re all about the users, but if they can’t find where they need to be, they’re not users, they’re lost. With all the shoots, offshoots, subsites and microsites, we didn’t know where to begin. So we started at the very beginning.
Our challenge was to join them somehow with a solution that holds the brand together. So we conceptualised, designed and developed a two-layer veneer for mtn.co.za – a single starting point that where all users could begin their journey and navigate through the MTN ecosystem.

Spring cleaning
the content
With so many kinds of content of varying importance, we found a way to prioritise the good stuff – the high-value products and services that produced the most revenue for the business. After all, that’s why we’re here. Call it spring cleaning, but for content instead of cupboards.
A new look for a new-look brand
With the various looks and feels MTN were rocking on their different subsites, this veneer was the perfect place to launch their new-look brand at the time. It did all the work of a new site, but without the copious costs and years of time that would take.
A good, old-fashioned grid with a difference
MTN stakeholders all have different needs when it comes to their online presence. And those needs change like the weather, as with any business. So we designed a grid that could shapeshift and resize itself depending on what content they need to push at any given time.
That new-site smell without a new site.
While everything else chops, changes and transforms as MTN moves towards the ultimate goal of a single site, the brand can direct their comms to one place, and users can find content quickly, easily and smoothly. And it all begins on mtn.co.za

The MTN Veneer was a critical first step in consolidating the fragmented MTN digital environment into a considered, holistic system. It was a huge pleasure working with the team to deliver such a great solution that had such a massive impact.
